Volkswagen celebrates the comeback of “Fire and Ice” with a special model and a song by Purple Disco Machine
Volkswagen is bringing back the music and pop culture of the 1990s with its new all-electric ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE special model: With spectacular stunts and breathtaking landscape shots, Willy Bogner’s ski film “Fire and Ice” (1986) quickly achieved cult status in the 1980s. The legendary Golf 2 Fire & Ice (1990), inspired by the film, had a lasting impact on the Zeitgeist. The film and the car have retained their cult status to this day. Volkswagen is now continuing this success story in musical form: with “Fire + Ice”, internationally acclaimed DJ Purple Disco Machine reinterprets the film’s iconic theme song and, together with Jake Shears, brings a fresh sound to the nostalgic success story. The protagonists of the action-packed music video are the Golf 2 Fire & Ice and its all-electric successor, the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE. -
“True Volkswagen”: Volkswagen realigns its model range around core values
Volkswagen will be presenting the results of three years of intensive development work at the IAA MOBILITY 2025 (8-14 September) in Munich, signalling the brand’s new direction. Inspired by the phrase “True Volkswagen”, the company has really honed in on typical Volkswagen strengths such as clean design with recognition factor, high standards of quality, an attractive price-performance ratio, intuitive operating concepts and innovative technologies. -
World premiere at the IAA: with the ID. CROSS Concept, Volkswagen is presenting a compact SUV for affordable electric mobility
Volkswagen, the largest supplier of electric cars in Germany and Europe in 2025, will be presenting an electric compact SUV at IAA MOBILITY in Munich (8-14 September): the ID. CROSS Concept. It is just as suitable for the city as it is for long journeys. Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, Head of the Brand Group Core and member of the Group Board of Management: "From the very beginning, my goal was to shape the best version of the Volkswagen brand of all time. The near-production concept car of the future ID. CROSS demonstrates that we are now truly delivering – with a new design, many technologies only seen in higher classes previously, improved operability and quality – and, at last, again the 'right' name. 50 years of the Polo: Volkswagen celebrates anniversary with spectacular drift video
Three legends, plenty of action – and a look into the future: the Polo is celebrating its 50th anniversary in sporty aplomb with an impressive drifting video. In it, the Polo R WRC and Polo R Supercar in a Harlekin livery selected by fans, as well as the electric Polo RX1e, show off their drifting abilities. None other than Johan Kristoffersson himself goes full throttle at unusual locations around the Polo plant in South Africa. But even the World Rallycross Champion is outshone at the end by a surprise guest. -
New naming strategy at Volkswagen: The ID. 2all show car will become the ID. Polo in series production – more models to follow
Volkswagen is also setting the course for the future when it comes to model names: with a new naming strategy that also transfers the familiar designations of combustion-engine models to its all-electric ID. family. The first model to be launched will be the ID. Polo from 2026. The concept car is known as the ID. 2all. Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, Head of the Brand Group Core and member of the Group Board of Management: “Our model names are firmly anchored in people’s minds. They stand for a strong brand and embody characteristics such as quality, timeless design and technologies for all. That’s why we’re moving our well-known names into the future. The ID. Polo is just the beginning.” Volkswagen will transfer more established names to the electric portfolio with each new model generation. At the same time, all vehicles with conventional drives will continue to run under their previous names. With this strategy, Volkswagen is bringing together the electric and combustion engine worlds, helping customers navigate the brand’s product range more easily in the future. -
ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE: Volkswagen starts series production in Zwickau and Dresden
Today the series production of the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE has started in Saxony. The 1,990 vehicles roll off the production line at the Zwickau vehicle plant and the Transparent Factory in Dresden. The model was developed in collaboration with the performance sportswear brand BOGNER FIRE+ICE, part of the Munich-based luxury sports fashion company BOGNER, just like the legendary Golf II Fire and Ice, which became a surprise success in the 90s and now enjoys cult status among fans. In tribute to the original model’s debut year, only 1990 units of the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE will be available to order. Prices in Germany start from €56,020. -
World premiere of the T-Roc: new generation of the best seller is high quality and innovative
The time has come: Volkswagen presents the new T-Roc! Developed completely from scratch, the second generation of the best seller boasts an expressive design and innovative drive systems. The high-quality interior features a newly designed cockpit, an infotainment screen measuring up to 33 centimetres (13 inch) and background lighting that creates a lounge-like atmosphere. In addition, the T-Roc offers more space in the interior and luggage compartment. New assist systems and technologies from higher vehicle classes complete the model. Examples include Travel Assist and the driving experience control. Pre-sales of the new T-Roc start in Germany on 28 August, with the market launch scheduled for November. Prices start at 30,845 euros for the 1.5 eTSI with 85 kW/115 PS. -
Volkswagen at the IAA MOBILITY 2025: Experience the brand world anew in Open Space Munich
At this year’s IAA MOBILITY, the Volkswagen brand is underlining its claim to offer mobility for everyone: VW is presenting four new models at the freely accessible event area in Munich city center. The open stand concept represents the brand’s approachability, invites visitors to explore and inspires the exchange of ideas. The Open Space will be open from Tuesday, September 9, through Sunday, September 14. Admission is free. -
A milestone in the transformation: Volkswagen delivers the 1.5 millionth all-electric ID. model
The Volkswagen brand has reached a significant milestone in its transformation to electromobility. In the presence of the Minister President of Lower Saxony Olaf Lies, the 1.5 millionth vehicle worldwide from the all-electric ID. family was today handed over to a customer at the Volkswagen plant in Emden. The anniversary vehicle is a black ID.7 Tourer Pro, which raises the bar in its class with a range of up to 606 kilometers. -
Brand Group Core improves sales revenue and achieves progress in cost efficiency
In the first half of 2025, the Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT/Cupra and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brands significantly improved sales revenue (+5.0%) to about 72.5 billion euros in a challenging market environment. Despite the adverse impact of significantly higher US import tariffs, it was possible to boost the operating result of the Brand Group Core to 3.46 billion euros. Key factors in this solid result are the rejuvenated product range, improved capacity utilization at the plants, reduced factory costs – and therefore the consistent implementation of the agreed restructuring initiatives.
