More Golf than ever

Significantly larger and more spacious: the new Golf V Variant is launched in June 2007. At 4.56 metres long, this space miracle is 15.9 centimetres longer than its predecessor. The maximum boot capacity grows from 1,470 to 1,550 litres. Standard features include Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), six airbags, electric windows, central locking, and a double floor in the boot. An optional panoramic sunroof is available, providing plenty of fresh air and daylight.

The entry-level model is a 1.4-litre petrol engine with 59 kW (80 PS). Four TSI petrol engines with a displacement of 1.4 litres and 90 kW (122 PS), 103 kW (140 PS), 118 kW (160 PS), and 125 kW (170 PS) ensure confident and sporty performance. The diesel engines are available as two 1.9-litre TDI units with 77 kW (105 PS) and 103 kW (140 PS) – both equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). With the exception of the naturally aspirated petrol engines, all engines can be ordered with the direct shift gearbox (DSG).

The VW Golf V Variant is manufactured in Mexico alongside the VW Jetta.

2007

More power

The 1.4-litre TSI is now also available with 90 kW (122 PS). Drivers looking for a particularly economically option choose the BlueMotion model with a 1.9-litre TDI BlueMotion engine and 77 kW (105 PS): this engine achieves fuel consumption of just 4.6 litres per 100 kilometres. Characteristic features include the gear shift indicator and the longer gear ratios from third to fifth gear.

2007

Better gear changes

From the end of 2007, the Golf V Variant can also be ordered with the new 7-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG). The developers put the new gearbox generation through its paces over 2,000,000 test kilometres. The 7-speed version is available in the 122 PS TSI and 105 PS TDI.

2008

TSI revamped

In summer 2008, the 125 kW (170 PS) 1.4-litre TSI is replaced by a TSI with the same displacement but delivering 118 kW (160 PS). An optional 7-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG) is available.
