With the Golf VII Variant, Volkswagen presents the estate version of one of the most successful vehicle model series in the world from spring 2013. The Golf VII Variant redefines the compact estate car segment. It is technically sophisticated, versatile, and sets new benchmarks in its class in many relevant disciplines from space and efficiency to driving dynamics.
The design follows the clear design language of the Golf VII but has its own characteristics with its extended body and rear end with elegant new proportions. Flowing lines, precise shoulders, and a harmonious combination of function and form convey a feeling of enduring solidity. Despite the increased space, the Variant seems sportier than its predecessor, aerodynamic fine tuning is rewarded with an optimum drag coefficient value of just 0.27 in ideal conditions.
In the interior, the Golf Variant transforms the standards of higher vehicle classes into the compact segment: high-quality materials and carefully considered ergonomics characterise the cockpit. Frequent drivers swear by the superb ergonomic seats. Compared with the predecessor, the boot capacity of the five-seater increases considerably to 605 litres with an upright backrest and up to 1,620 litres with the rear seats folded down. Depending on the version, the permitted towing capacity is a maximum of two tonnes (up to 12 percent gradient).
For the first time, alongside the classic Variant versions there are also new derivatives with a stronger focus on the Lifestyle aspect. The Golf R Variant offers driving performance at sports car level, it reaches speeds of up to 270 km/h. The Golf Variant Alltrack optimised for easy terrain picks up on the SUV trend with increased ground clearance, off-road chassis, and off-road mode.
This sees the Golf VII Variant offer a new dimension of diversity: it is a family car, sports car, company car, and leisure vehicle all rolled into one – a universal companion. Its technical substance, comfort features, and workmanship significantly surpass the compact class level.
