Factory code: Type 411
With this advertising slogan, Volkswagen launches the 411 (Type 4) model onto the highly competitive mid-range market in 1968. With prosperity steadily increasing, the company wants to establish an upmarket model – and win new customers in the process. Volkswagen has a lot to offer: the 411 is a completely redesigned model series with modern chassis, which is often cited in advertising as being inspired by the Porsche 911: with independent front suspension based on the MacPherson principle and semi-trailing arms at the rear.
It isn't just Volkswagen drivers who are impressed by the spacious body with its attractive features and five comfortable seats accessible via two or four doors. The boot capacity of 570 litres is equally impressive.
A parking heater is part of the standard equipment. The VW 411 is available with a three-stage fully automatic transmission from the start of production. At the rear, a 1.7-litre flat engine developed for this series provides acceleration. With two carburettors, it delivers 50 kW (68 PS).
