The Volkswagen Jetta II is unveiled in February 1984, one year after the premiere of the Golf II, with which it had been developed from the outset. However, like its predecessor, the Jetta II features a distinctive rear end: nothing reminds you of its compact sibling with a tailgate. The interior dimensions are increased to make it even more comfortable, and the boot offers upper-class space.
Technically, the Golf II and its counterpart, the Jetta, remain closely related. Rectangular headlights distinguish it at the front. The overall length is 4,315 millimetres, and the kerb weight has increased to 910 kilograms.
There are four equipment lines: C, CL, GL, and Carat. The Carat equipment variant is only available with the 1.8-litre engine (66 kW/90 PS) and four doors. The special models are called Strada, Beach, Coach, Court, Pacific, Flair, TX, and Style.
In February 1984, the VW Jetta II is introduced with the following engines: 1.3 litre (40 kW/55 PS), 1.6 litre (55 kW/75 PS), 1.8 litre (66 kW/90 PS), 1.6 litre diesel (40 kW/54 PS), and the 1.6 litre turbo diesel (51 kW/70 PS).
