Factory code: Type 15 Cabriolet
From 1966, Karmann equips the Beetle Cabriolet with a 1.5-litre boxer engine. Externally, the VW 1500 Cabriolet remains unchanged at first, but the following year sees a major visual leap forward for the Cabriolet – with new bumpers, vertical headlights, and larger rear lights.
The model update is the same as for the saloon. The convertible also receives new bumpers, vertical headlights, shorter bonnet and boot lids, and larger rear lights. Another new feature is the external fuel filler flap.
Under the bonnet, the car is modernised with a 12-volt electrical system and dual-circuit brakes, among other things.
