Almost simultaneously with the changeover for the Beetle saloon, the 1302 LS model replaces the 1500 in the convertible range. It is now equipped with the large 1,600cc engine with 37 kW (50 PS) and the performance-enhancing dual-channel intake system. In this development stage, the oil cooler, which was previously located in the airflow of the third cylinder, is now better positioned on the fan housing and no longer restricts engine cooling. The VW 1302's engine is ventilated via ten air slots in two packages.
The more powerful model comes with disk brakes on the front axle as standard, and the only equipment variant is the L version. Compared to the VW 1500 Cabriolet, the soft top is redesigned so that it can now be folded up to save space.
