In 2009, the Golf VI is given a new lease of life with the launch of the estate version, the Variant. The new model builds on the virtues of its predecessor – combining enormous space, high utility value, and outstanding economy. The 4.53-metre-long VW Golf VI Variant is also based on the proven PQ35 platform.
The estate version of the Golf, built in Puebla, Mexico, is available exclusively as a five-door model. The new front end was designed under the direction of new chief designer Walter de Silva and appears noticeably sleeker. Despite a dynamically sloping rear line, as in its predecessor, the Golf design leaves room for a 505- to 1,495-litre luggage compartment with a low loading sill.
When it comes to safety and assistance systems, the new Golf Variant plays it safe: a pioneering knee airbag system for the driver is now standard. Power is provided by proven four-cylinder engines ranging from 59 to 118 kW (80 to 160 PS) for the petrol engines and 77 to 103 kW (105 to 140 PS) for the diesel engines.
Customers can choose between the Trendline, Comfortline and Highline equipment lines as well as numerous special models.
