World premiere at the IAA: with the ID. CROSS Concept, Volkswagen is presenting a compact SUV for affordable electric mobility
Volkswagen, the largest supplier of electric cars in Germany and Europe in 2025, will be presenting an electric compact SUV at IAA MOBILITY in Munich (8-14 September): the ID. CROSS Concept. It is just as suitable for the city as it is for long journeys. Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, Head of the Brand Group Core and member of the Group Board of Management: "From the very beginning, my goal was to shape the best version of the Volkswagen brand of all time. The near-production concept car of the future ID. CROSS demonstrates that we are now truly delivering – with a new design, many technologies only seen in higher classes previously, improved operability and quality – and, at last, again the 'right' name. ID. AURA, ID. ERA and ID. EVO: Volkswagen unveils three concept vehicles in Shanghai
Volkswagen is now telling the rest of the ID. CODE story. The concept car presented in Beijing in 2024 charted the course in terms of design, innovations and customer benefit. Building on this, the brand is now unveiling three new concept cars at Auto Shanghai together with its Chinese joint venture partners. The ID. AURA (from FAW-Volkswagen), the ID. ERA (from SAIC VOLKSWAGEN) and the ID. EVO (from Volkswagen Anhui) are representative of a new generation of smart electric vehicles and give a preview of the product strategy for the coming years. Volkswagen plans to bring out over 30 new models (including 20 NEVs) in the relevant segments of the Chinese market through the end of 2027. These will include production versions of the concept cars now being presented in Shanghai, whose design and technologies have been specifically tailored to the needs of Chinese customers.

In detail – the exterior design and interior concept of the new Volkswagen concept vehicle ID. EVERY1
With the world premiere of the ID. 2all, Volkswagen presented a concept vehicle for the first time based on the brand’s new design language. This visual language specifically transfers iconic design elements such as the legendary C-pillar of the first Golf into the near future and into new segments. Now the design team has transferred this new language to the concept vehicle of an electric Volkswagen entry-level model: the ID. EVERY1. The style and character of the smallest Volkswagen are shaped by the three central values of the new design language: stability, likeability and secret sauce. Volkswagen Head of Design Andreas Mindt: “The widely flared wheel housings over the large 19-inch wheels and the athletic and clearly designed surfaces of the silhouette ensure stability. The slightly cheeky smile at the front is a particularly likeable feature. A secret sauce element is the roof drawn in in the middle, as is usually known from sports cars. The new ID. CODE - World premiere
With the world premiere of the ID. CODE at Auto China 2024 in Beijing, Volkswagen is providing a first glimpse of a completely new SUV generation, a new design language for China and a new technology generation. The concept car was developed specifically for Volkswagen customers in China. With the ID. CODE, Volkswagen is interpreting SUV design in a completely new way and enriching it with fascinatingly superior dynamics in the age of electric mobility. With its powerful, clear and fluid surfaces, the ID. CODE comes across more like a Gran Turismo than a five-metre class SUV. The exterior is also a projection surface for the next generation of AI-assisted lighting and display systems – intuitively usable interfaces for intelligent communication between man and machine. The newly designed living space on board the ID. CODE fits perfectly into this picture – here, the real and virtual worlds combine to create a new mobility experience. The electrically powered concept car can be driven conventionally and also used autonomously at Level 4. The ID. CODE offers a more fascinating experience than ever before – it interacts with the driver, passengers and surroundings so that life with this Volkswagen becomes a completely new automotive adventure.
