The Derby, presented in 1977, was a notchback Polo. The two-door model had an extremely spacious trunk with a capacity of 425 liters. The second generation (based on the Polo II) made its debut in 1981 with a cargo capacity of 445 liters. The model was produced until 1985 as the Derby. Afterwards, Volkswagen offered the two-door sedan together with the Polo hatchback and the Polo coupe as the polo notchback (Switzerland: Polo Classic). In the third-generation Polo, the designation Polo Classic already used in Switzerland was introduced for the notchback model in general. Nowadays, the notchback versions of the series are generally referred to as the Polo. They are available on many of the world’s markets, for example in Russia.
