Factory code: Type 11 + Type 11 Export
The displacement of the Beetle engine continues to grow. In 1965, the engine is upgraded to 1.3 litres and 29 kW/40 PS (crankshaft from the VW Type 3). Another new feature is the redesigned front axle. The previous collar bolt mounting of the wishbones, which had to be adjusted and lubricated every 2,500 kilometres, is replaced by a design in which only four grease nipples on the support tubes needed to be lubricated.
Initially, only the export model is offered, but from 1966 onwards, the more simply equipped VW 1300 A variant is also available. Alternatively, this model is also available with the old 34PS boxer engine, which can be combined with the Saxomat semi-automatic transmission on request.
In 1967, the VW Beetle 1300 is modernised. On the outside, the higher bumpers (known as "railway tracks"), the vertical headlights, and the shortened bonnet and boot lids are noticeable. Technical advances include a 12-volt electrical system, dual-circuit brakes, and an external fuel filler flap.
