The SEAT & CUPRA plant in Martorell starts production of the CUPRA Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo, leading a new era for mobility as it is ready to electrify Europe from Spain. The arrival of the Electric Urban Car Family, a project led by SEAT & CUPRA on behalf of the Volkswagen Group’s Brand Group Core, is set to make electric mobility accessible across the continent with four fully electric models across three distinct brands, all Made in Spain.

The GTI for a new era: 50 years after the debut of the first GTI, Volkswagen is now presenting the first all-electric model with the world-famous badge – the completely newly developed ID. Polo GTI with an output of 166 kW (226 PS). It is a powerful and highly agile compact sports car that passes the 100 km/h mark from a standstill in 6.8 seconds – but at the same time is suitable for everyday driving. Like with the first GTI in 1976, the drive power of the new ID. Polo GTI is also transferred to the wheels via the front axle – a maximum of 290 Newton-metres that is available at lightning speed. This power is perfectly proportioned thanks to the electronically controlled front differential lock equipped as standard. The world premiere of the ID. Polo GTI took place today, Friday, at the 24h race at the Nürburgring. Pre-sales are scheduled to start in Germany this autumn at a price of just under 39,000 euros.

It will be a race weekend all about the three legendary red letters: Volkswagen is celebrating 50 years of the GTI at the 24h Nürburgring (14-17 May 2026) – marking half a century of driving pleasure and motorsport passion. At the same time, the Volkswagen brand is opening a new chapter in the anniversary year and will unveil the new ID. Polo GTI in the unique atmosphere at the Nürburgring on Friday. For the first time, an all-electric model will bear the renowned GTI badge. However, the world premiere is just one highlight of this special GTI weekend: just one day later, three Golf GTI Clubsport 24h cars will compete in the world-famous endurance race.

It is the seventh generation of a bestseller that has been sold more than 20 million times – only this time it is all-electric and completely new. The ID. Polo is based on the current evolutionary stage of the modular electric drive platform: the MEB+. The electric Volkswagen comes with front-wheel drive. Thanks to the particularly compact MEB+ modules, the new ID. Polo offers significantly more space than a comparable model with conventional drive. The new Volkswagen was developed within the Group as a joint project of the Brand Group Core. This is associated with strong synergy effects, which help the new ID. Polo to offer excellent value for money. The ID. Polo Trend – the already well-equipped entry-level model – will be launched in Germany at prices starting from 24,995 euros, for example. The ID. Polo Life (with focus on comfort) and the dynamically elegant ID. Polo Style will be available as further equipment lines. A sporty flagship model will also follow next year: the ID. Polo GTI. Common to all four versions is an unparalleled level of quality. The new model also excels in terms of its technologies – for example, with the new Connected Travel Assist including automatic traffic light recognition, one-pedal driving (strong deceleration of the car solely by control of the accelerator) or the Vehicle-to-Load function, in which the car becomes a power source for external devices such as e-bikes.
