Its predecessor sold brilliantly, so the company decided to continue along the same path – in April 1999, the estate version of the Golf IV is unveiled. Production transfers from Karmann in Osnabrück to the Volkswagen plants in Wolfsburg, Mosel and Brussels.
The second generation of the Golf estate car seamlessly continues the success and popularity of its predecessor. The boot, which normally has a capacity of 460 litres, can be expanded to 1,470 litres with the rear seats folded down.
"At some point, you just want more," is the headline of the Volkswagen sales brochure in 1999. The new VW Golf IV Variant stands for maximum safety, manufacturing quality, and durability, offering comfort and versatility. In addition to the basic version, the Golf IV Variant is available in the Trendline, Comfortline and Highline equipment lines.
Because the Golf IV Variant is built alongside the higher-end VW Bora Variant, customers have to do without the V5 and V6 petrol engines and the top-of-the-range 1.9 TDI version.
