Technology in the new Touareg – Part 5: the head-up display projects information onto the windscreen

The Innovision cockpit in the new Touareg – an interactive digital landscape consisting of display and control elements – is the blueprint for the cockpit of the future. A head-up display lends the perfect finishing touch: it projects a virtual summary of the latest key information into the driver’s selective field of vision.

Technology in the new Touareg – Part 4: “Traffic Jam Assist” now also masters traffic jams and roadworks semi-automatically at speeds less than 55 km/h

Partly automated driving functions take comfort to an unprecedented level. The new Touareg is a ground-breaking example of this: The driver on board this luxury SUV is specifically assisted when steering, accelerating and braking by assist systems if desired. Thanks to the fusion of different systems, the Touareg can semi-automatically master irritating stop-and-go situations when “Traffic Jam Assist” is active.

Article series: Small helpers with big effects – Part 3 Avoiding accidents thanks to Rear Traffic Alert with Blind Spot Monitor

Exiting parking spaces in reverse is a common everyday situation in road traffic. When reversing from perpendicular parking spaces, the driver often has a poor view. Another electronic helper from Volkswagen helps here: Rear Traffic Alert. Radar sensors are installed at the rear of the vehicle. They monitor the zone behind and on the sides of the vehicle to supplement the ultrasonic parking sensors. Rear Traffic Alert recognises what the driver cannot see from their seat. If the system detects another vehicle approaching in cross traffic behind the car, it warns the driver preventively of the hazardous situation. If the driver does not react, the system can automatically initiate a brake intervention. This avoids collision damages or at least reduce them.

Polo and T-Roc attain top safety ratings 5 stars from Euro NCAP for the newest Volkswagen

The new Polo and T-Roc have attained the top rating of five stars in Euro NCAP crash tests. The two latest Volkswagen models attain very good figures in all key test areas: ‘Adult Occupant', ‘Child Occupant', ‘Pedestrian' and ‘Safety Assist' (assistance systems). Dr Frank Welsch, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management responsible for Development: "Volkswagen has been democratising safety for decades now. The outstanding Euro NCAP ratings for the Polo and T-Roc demonstrate once again how we are making maximum safety available to the drivers of mini and compact models as well." The Polo is available at prices from 12,975 euros, and the T-Roc from 20,390 euros (prices for Germany). The base versions of both the Polo and the T-Roc are already well equipped with six airbags, ESC including counter steering assistance, the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and the Front Assist area monitoring system with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring. The T-Roc also comes with the Lane Assist lane keeping system as standard.

Personalisation – individual settings on demand Arteon, T-Roc, Golf & Co. "recognise" their drivers

People are different. Some are tall, others are short; some like loud rock music, others may prefer classical; some actually freeze in summer, while others are too warm even in winter. If a number of people share one and the same car, each change of driver involves setting, altering and adjusting preferences. Now Volkswagen is putting a stop to all this. "Personalisation" in the true meaning of the word is the key here: the individual settings are allocated to a user name – Driver1, for example – and the respective car key activates them automatically. The personalisation function is already available for the new T-Roc and Arteon as well as all versions of the current Golf, Touran, Tiguan and Passat. As soon as these Volkswagen models are fitted with the feature known as driving profile selection and/or (depending on the model) with a memory function for the driver's seat, personalisation is also included.

Relaxed driving in the summer holidays Traffic Jam Assist is your intelligent chauffeur in stop-and-go traffic

Summer is the time for holiday travel. Unfortunately this also involves heavy traffic and long traffic jams, as the typical routes of travel are often overcrowded. Mountain passes become a chokepoint, ferry lanes a bottleneck, and high-speed motorways around major cities transform into carparks. Stop-and-go driving in traffic jams turns holiday driving into a test of patience, and also it presents a risk of rear-end collisions. Volkswagen's Traffic Jam Assist is there to help in such situations. This innovative assistance system is already available together with the dual clutch gearbox (DSG) on the Golf, Golf Variant, Tiguan, Touran, Passat, Passat Variant and Arteon.
