Volkswagen will celebrate the world première of the Golf GTD at the Geneva International Motor Show from 5 to 15 March. Among the technical highlights is the most powerful and – thanks to twin dosing – cleanest turbo diesel injection (TDI) engine ever to be installed in a Golf. It harmonises the confident dynamism of the Golf GTD together with higher efficiency and lowest emissions. The charismatic design of the Golf GTD reflects a unique combination of dynamism and self-confidence.
The diesel top-of-the-range version, based on the new eighth generation of the Golf, will carry the long tradition of the GTD into the future. In 1982, Volkswagen presented the very first Golf GTD.

Volkswagen then presented the derivatives of the product line in quick succession, releasing four versions in 2013 alone: the Golf GTI, Golf GTD, Golf R and Golf Variant.

In conjunction with 4Motion all-wheel drive and a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG), the engine with 184 PS (135 kW)1, mainly known from the Golf GTD, provides the perfect combination of sportiness and efficiency. This engine and gearbox combination is also available on the special Allstar model and as well as special equipment specifications comes with a five-year warranty.
With 184 PS and 380 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm, the 2.0 TDI engine known from the Golf GTD gives the Sharan its sovereign acceleration and pulling power – even when towing a trailer. Its 7-speed dual clutch gearbox comes as standard and distributes the power delivery so smoothly that both driving off and bursts of acceleration are extremely comfortable and confident.

The same applies to the new Golf GTE – its plug-in hybrid drive has been geared towards performance and consists of an electric drive motor with 85 kW (115 PS) and a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (TSI) generating 110 kW (150 PS). As a unit, the electric drive motor and the TSI develop a system output of 180 kW (245 PS). The new Golf GTE’s top speed in all-electric mode is 130 km/h. Further Volkswagen highlights include the new Golf GTD, which generates significantly lower nitrogen oxide emissions compared with its predecessor thanks to innovative twin dosing technology, plus the eighth generation of the Golf GTI, produced more than 2.3 million times. The most recent version is powered by a 180 kW (245 PS) 2.0-litre turbocharged direct injection engine. The maximum torque is 370 Nm.

The Golf once again the favorite car of Germans and Europeans in 2020
“After the outbreak of the coronavirus in spring interrupted the market launch that had just started, the Golf had a lot of catching up to do in the second half of the year. In particular, the availability of all of the important model derivatives, such as the GTI, GTD und GTE, gave the Golf a second wind in the third quarter,” Brandstätter continued. The high demand for hybrid models also contributed to this success.
The new Golf GTI Clubsport – World premiere of the 300 PS flagship GTI model
Following on from the GTI, GTE and GTD, Volkswagen is now presenting the next highlight from its sporty family of Golf models: the new Golf GTI Clubsport. This vehicle marks the next chapter in the brand’s tradition of high-performance GTIs: the first Golf GTI Clubsport was launched in 2016 on the 40th anniversary of the iconic sports car.
