The wait is over: the new Tiguan can now be ordered with two new top engines. The powerful 2.0 TSI engine with output of 162 kW / 220 PS familiar from the Golf GTI now gives the Tiguan an even sportier character. In addition, the new 2.0 TDI biturbo with 176 KW / 240 PS raises the bar even further and boasts extremely dynamic driving performance.

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 2.93 million vehicles to customers worldwide in the first six months of 2016, almost matching the prior-year level (2.95 million vehicles). At 492,800 units, deliveries in June were up on the comparable month last year. Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Sales, commented: "The Volkswagen brand recorded an increase of 4.7 percent in June despite challenging conditions on key markets. In particular the stable performance in Europe and a strong result in China contributed to this positive achievement. The outstanding response to the new Tiguan provides further momentum for the second half of the year."

Volkswagen is kicking off the summer with a new extraordinary limited edition model. The new Touareg Executive Edition is now supplementing the model range of the popular SUV and impresses with its exclusive features.

BUDD-e, the 2016 CES show car, is touring China as an ambassador for e-mobility. With the concept car Volkswagen is presenting the next generation of electrically powered vehicles to Chinese motorists live in their own locality. The zero-emission MPV celebrated its world premiere in January at the CES in Las Vegas. Since then the concept car has been travelling the globe as the precursor of a new generation of electric vehicles.

The Polo beats' sound sums up the overall concept: with a 300 watt premium sound system mixed by the US audio specialist BeatsAudioTM, this new special model is now making some noise in the small car segment.

Today saw the world premiere of the Volkswagen Phideon, ahead of the Geneva International Motor Show 2016. The all-new premium saloon will be launched on the Chinese market in 2016 and combines distinguished elegance with maximum dynamic performance.

At the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Volkswagen is presenting the Tiguan GTE Active Concept. The concept car is based on the new Tiguan, and it showcases the technical capabilities of the modular transverse matrix. The primary goal was to create a synthesis of plug-in hybrid technology and maximum off-road performance. 

Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 5.82 million vehicles to customers worldwide in the full year 2015. "The Volkswagen brand did a good job last year in the face of challenging conditions. Regional performance varied quite considerably due to market factors. Above all Europe, together with China, remain important pillars for sales," explained Jürgen Stackmann, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand responsible for Sales, Marketing and After-Sales, and added: "In 2016, we will continue to focus on winning back customers' trust because customer satisfaction is and will remain one of our most valuable assets. At the same time we are optimizing our global selling power and stepping on the gas with new models." He said the new Touran was in the middle of the market launch phase, the new Tiguan was lined up and ready to go. With the Beetle Dune and the GTI Club Sport, the brand was launching two really fun-to-drive models. Stackmann continued: "All Volkswagen employees are highly motivated and are working on shaping the future of this great automobile brand and continuing to build outstanding cars."

It was shortly after the first post-war Christmas 1945 that the first of the Volkswagen Type 1 – the model which, as the Beetle, would subsequently be sold more than 21 million times – rolled off the production line. By the end of 1945 only 55 vehicles had been produced in total however. The start of mass production was a highly improvised undertaking, and material shortages hampered operations over the subsequent months. Yet the early vehicles were visible symbols of hope; a new beginning for the car plant under British control.
