We listened and then we implemented. Volkswagen has incorporated a host of improvements and the most advanced technologies in the new ID. Tiguan. In particular, Europe’s largest automotive manufacturer is opening a new chapter in this electric class with the newly designed interior. The company has listened carefully to what features and characteristics customers also expect from the electric Volkswagen models. These points have been specifically incorporated into new vehicles such as the ID. Polo, ID. Cross, ID.3 Neo and now the ID. Tiguan. The body has a clean, powerful and timeless design. The interior has a new architecture, a new design and a new quality. The details have been designed in exactly the way that customers in Europe want: simple and intuitive.
Progress visible everywhere. The wide range of innovative technologies underpin the high quality – take the cockpit landscape as an example: highlights include a co-driver display (12-inch, 30.5-cm diagonal) that is available for the first time in a European Volkswagen. The 10-inch driver display (Digital Cockpit, 25.4-cm diagonal) and the central 15-inch infotainment display (38.1-cm diagonal) are also new. Together with the front passenger display, this results in a continuous display landscape. It goes without saying that the new ID. Tiguan will also be configurable with the latest assist, driving and comfort systems. These include features such as the standard one-pedal-driving (strong deceleration using the accelerator pedal alone), the new Connected Travel Assist, which, among other things, enables assisted lane changing on motorways and automatically stops the ID. Tiguan at red traffic lights. In addition, comfort details such as electrically adjustable front seats with massage, memory and ventilation function, a high-end sound system from Harman Kardon with a music output of 480 watts and a panoramic sunroof will be part of the optional equipment range. A clever detail is the PowerSocket. This adapter is simply plugged into the charging interface of the ID. Tiguan and makes it possible to power all kinds of electrical devices – from electric grills to e-bikes. No less practical is the Digital Key, which can also be activated on-demand at a later date. This enables the vehicle to be unlocked, locked and started using a compatible smartphone. The Digital Key can also be transferred to family members, friends or colleagues – using the Volkswagen app, it can be shared easily by means of text message, messenger services or email.
The ID. Tiguan embodies the new Pure Positive design language. One of Volkswagen’s core values is a superior, timeless and crystal-clear design. And this is embodied in every way by the new ID. Tiguan. It is the largest new model in Europe to date that follows the new Volkswagen Pure Positive design language. With the ID. Tiguan, this design idiom has been incorporated into a high-quality and authentic SUV. The softer crossover design of the predecessor has thus given way to a new, powerful and visually present SUV design. It deliberately demonstrates a targeted brand identity, but is also highly independent at the same time. In the range of electric Volkswagen models, the new ID. Tiguan clearly positions itself as the big brother of the ID. Cross. A distinctive design sets the ID. Tiguan apart from the Tiguan based on the MQB evo with combustion and hybrid drives. The precise lines and taut surfaces lend the ID. Tiguan stability and visual quality, creating a level of charismatic confidence that makes it appear like a vehicle from the premium class. At our customers’ request: a return to classic, ergonomically ideally designed pull door handles.
Perfect operation – that’s a promise. The interior of the ID. Tiguan also follows the principles of the True Volkswagen philosophy. The interior therefore boasts a high-quality and clear design, consistently intuitive operation, a premium feel and an atmosphere that is welcoming in every respect. This feeling is reinforced by elegant lighting effects. The interplay of design, materials and a stylish colour scheme creates an atmosphere that also builds a clear bridge to the next higher segment.
Entertainment for the co-driver. The new ID. Tiguan generally impresses in all areas with innovative technologies. In the vehicle interior, this includes the new co-driver display, which allows the front passenger to immerse themselves in their own infotainment, information and gaming world without distracting the driver. This is because the display is not visible to the driver, like with a laptop privacy screen (privacy mode). In privacy mode, the front passenger can listen to the sound on their paired Bluetooth headphones.
Intuitive operation. Volkswagen has consistently implemented a clear operating logic in the ID. Tiguan. Important functions can therefore be accessed again using physical buttons and are arranged in the interior where the respective function is intuitively expected. The air conditioning system is a prime example of this: the basic functions are now controlled via a button bar in the centre console. As another practical feature, the door openers have been ergonomically designed to ensure optimal grip; in this area on the driver’s side, the operating panel for the four power windows in the door has also been redesigned. A further example is adjusting audio volume and changing station/track: this is primarily done by means of an intuitively accessible controller in the centre console. Placed in front: the two inductive Qi2 charging bases for smartphones; a magnetic ring centres the smartphones. The new chargers are also illuminated in the colour of the background lighting. Another new feature is the multifunction steering wheel with physical buttons instead of touch controls.
New ‘Retro’ displays. In spite of all the focus on functionality, there is also an element of fun as shown by the ‘Retro’ displays. They are a completely new development for the ID. Tiguan. If the driver activates the ‘Retro’ display using the ‘View’ button on the multifunction steering wheel, the iconic blue-red instruments from a Golf IV appear in the Digital Cockpit. In this case, there is a classic speedometer on the left and a stylised rev counter on the right. It does not display engine speeds but shows the energy flow of the drive as a power display. The corresponding ‘Retro’ view in the central infotainment screen can also be personalised for the first time. Here, the driver can call up the look of six different Volkswagen models, which are displayed in a virtual garage: Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, Tiguan I, Race Touareg and Beetle.
Long-distance capability with a range of up to 600 km. The ID. Tiguan will be launched with an efficient drive system spectrum and in the four equipment versions Trend, Life, Style and R-Line. The SUV has rear-wheel drive; 4MOTION all-wheel drive will also be available as an option. The standard drive of the Trend, Life and Style specifications includes a 58-kWh (net) high-voltage battery; in this case, the electric drive motor develops an output of 140 kW (190 PS). Positioned above this is a rear-wheel drive version with 77-kWh battery (net) and 210 kW (286 PS) as well as a longer range. This drive system is available as an option for the Life and Style versions and is offered as standard in conjunction with the sporty ID. Tiguan R-Line. As the most powerful variant, the all-wheel drive ID. Tiguan will be launched in the Life, Style and R-Line versions with a 77-kWh (net) battery and 220 kW (299 PS). Depending on drive system, the WLTP ranges are between up to 450 km and up to 600 km. The technical data of the ID. Tiguan at a glance:
