Volkswagen entered the premium segment for the first time 23 years ago with the Touareg and the Phaeton saloon. The new special-edition model is characterised by exclusive design elements both inside and out. All equipment lines feature striking “FINAL EDITION” lettering laser-engraved on the window surrounds of the rear doors and also embossed in the leather of the gear lever. The multicolour ambient lighting comes as standard in the Elegance equipment line and above; the label also appears in the illuminated dash panel trim and on the illuminated sill panel mouldings. From the outside, it is as large as a Passat, but it offers as much space in the interior as a Phaeton. The interior has the shape and materials of a lounge. In addition, the radical simplification of operation makes for effortless mobility. Passengers can opt for entertainment, information, relaxation or work, in line with their personal wishes. The pure electric range of the model is up to 650 kilometers. "The I.D. VIZZION is our very realistic vision for a Volkswagen of the future. And we will be offering this model – by the latest in 2022 as the top sedan in the I.D. family with the innovative I.D. cockpit and a steering wheel. The model will be prepared for fully autonomous driving. Step-by-step, it will relieve the driver of tasks – if the driver so wishes. With the I.D. Transparent Factory Dresden: E-location and showcase for e-mobility since 2017 Since opening in 2001, the upper-class saloon Phaeton (84,235 units, 2001-2016), the Bentley Flying Spur (2,186 units, 2005/2006 and 2013/2014) and, since 2017, the e-Golf (50,401 units) have rolled off the production line in the Transparent Factory. The launch of the e-Golf also marked the strategic realignment of the company into a "Centre of Future Mobility". Innovative business areas such as the "Future Mobility Incubator", Volkswagen's start-up programme, and the "Future Mobility Campus", a learning laboratory for training and further education, the expansion of vehicle delivery and as a test field for Production 4.0, have made the location fit for the future. This successful transformation will continue apace with the imminent series production of the ID.3 from the end of January 2021.
