Start of the Circular economy: Zwickau vehicle plant launches business areas
The Zwickau vehicle plant is now taking on the role of central competence centre for the circular economy within the Volkswagen Group. In Zwickau, new business areas in the circular economy will be examined for economic viability, standards will be set and the knowledge gained will be made available to other locations worldwide. Volkswagen plans to invest a total of up to 90 million euros in the site over the next few years. The Free State of Saxony is funding the overall project with up to 10.7 million euros. In addition to its central function, Zwickau will initially start with the systematic disassembly of vehicles to recover valuable raw materials and reuse components. A gradual increase in capacity to 15,000 vehicles per year is planned by 2030. The implementation of the circular economy at the Zwickau site was decided during collective bargaining negotiations in December 2024. -

The all-new ID. Polo - Covered Drive & Design Workshop
A bestseller becomes electric. Volkswagen has reinvented the Polo, a vehicle that has been sold more than 20 million times: 50 years after the debut of the first generation, the first electric version of the bestseller is ready to go with the new ID. Polo. Official pre-sales will start in around just five months – at the end of April 2026. The final test drives to fine-tune the new Volkswagen are currently underway around the globe. As part of these test drives with still camouflaged pre-production cars, Volkswagen is now opening the doors of the ID. Polo to the international media for the first time. It will be the first production model to be based on the technology from the new evolutionary stage of the modular electric drive (MEB) platform: the MEB+. With the enhanced hardware and software from the MEB+, Volkswagen is bringing a new range of innovations on board its ID. models. These include a new electric front-wheel drive developed specifically for the more compact VW product lines – this is used as a new feature in the ID. Polo. In the smaller vehicle classes, the new drive system offers significant advantages in terms of both available space and price. To give you an idea of the price point: the entry-level ID. Polo will be launched in many markets at prices of less than 25,000 euros. This compact Volkswagen model has been a collaborative project within the Brand Group Core: CUPRA was responsible for project management, whilst the Volkswagen Design Centre in Wolfsburg was where the design process for the ID. Polo took place. The electric Polo’s essential technologies – e.g., the assist systems, drive, running gear and steering – are based on the MEB+ modular system developed by Volkswagen. The ID. Polo is built at SEAT & CUPRA’s Martorell plant in Spain, making it a true European. -

In detail – the exterior design and interior concept of the new Volkswagen concept vehicle ID. EVERY1
With the world premiere of the ID. 2all, Volkswagen presented a concept vehicle for the first time based on the brand’s new design language. This visual language specifically transfers iconic design elements such as the legendary C-pillar of the first Golf into the near future and into new segments. Now the design team has transferred this new language to the concept vehicle of an electric Volkswagen entry-level model: the ID. EVERY1. The style and character of the smallest Volkswagen are shaped by the three central values of the new design language: stability, likeability and secret sauce. Volkswagen Head of Design Andreas Mindt: “The widely flared wheel housings over the large 19-inch wheels and the athletic and clearly designed surfaces of the silhouette ensure stability. The slightly cheeky smile at the front is a particularly likeable feature. A secret sauce element is the roof drawn in in the middle, as is usually known from sports cars. All these design elements lend the ID. EVERY1 a charismatic identity with which people can identify.” The pillars of stability, likeability and the secret sauce shape the design of the ID. EVERY1 in the following way:
