Volkswagen is starting a new chapter in the 50-year history of the GTI: Pre-sale of the all-new ID. Polo GTI begins today, Wednesday. The first all-electric model with the GTI label brings the legendary GTI driving pleasure into the electric future: with spontaneous response, precise handling and a sporty, confident appearance. The 166 kW (226 PS) compact sports car is available with extensive standard equipment from 39,995 euros.
The new ID. Polo GTI takes the basic idea of the first Golf GTI from 1976 into the electric future. Its maximum torque of 290 Nm is available without delay. As a result, the ID. Polo GTI accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Based on customer feedback, the maximum speed was set at 190 km/h. Like its predecessors, it transfers its power to the road via the front wheels. An electronically controlled front axle transverse differential lock distributes the power to the front wheels in a targeted manner and supports the ID. Polo GTI particularly when cornering. The standard equipment also includes a specially tuned progressive steering system and the adaptive DCC sports suspension. Their interaction ensures that even the first electric GTI feels like a real GTI.
The GTI wakes up at the push of a button. Volkswagen has developed the new “GTI” driving profile for particularly dynamic moments. A press of a button on the sports steering wheel is all it takes to tune the electric drive, steering and suspension for maximum sportiness. For this purpose, a specially developed GTI sound starts, while the cockpit changes to its own colour and graphic world. This makes the character of the vehicle not only tangible, but also visible.
A GTI at first glance. The red stripe on the front, the typical honeycomb pattern and the standard 19-inch light-alloy wheels pick up on well-known GTI features and reinterpret them. There are also “IQ.LIGHT - LED matrix headlights”, illuminated Volkswagen logos (front and rear), a split roof edge spoiler and the distinctive three letters on the front, rear and side sills. Inside, red contrasting seams, a red 12 o'clock marking on the sports steering wheel and standard-fit top sports seats create a sporty atmosphere. The seat covers transfer the traditional check pattern of earlier GTI models to the present day.
Endurance meets dynamism. The energy for the electric front-wheel drive is supplied by a battery with a net energy capacity of 52 kWh, which enables a WLTP range of up to 424 km. The navigation system includes the e-route planner, which automatically plans necessary charging stops along the route. At DC rapid charging stations, the ID. Polo GTI has a charging capacity of up to 105 kW. Thanks to its constant charging curve, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in around 24 minutes.
Digital time travel in the cockpit. The digital cockpit landscape is clearly structured. The 10.25-inch “Digital Cockpit” and the central 12.9-inch infotainment display lie on one visual axis. The “retro display” creates a special connection to the history of the GTI: Graphics in the style of the instruments of a late Golf I are available on request. Even the music playback takes up the lifestyle of the 1980s and represents the current track as a cassette.
GTI - sporty and also suitable for everyday use. Thanks to its compact electric drive components, the ID. Polo GTI offers passengers more interior space than the Polo GTI with combustion engine. The luggage compartment capacity increases from 351 litres to 441 litres. When the rear seat backrests are folded down, up to 1,240 litres are available. A detachable tow bar is available as an option. With a nose weight of 75 kg, it is also suitable for a bike carrier carrying two e-bikes.
Equipment for individual requirements. The range of optional equipment includes a panoramic glass sunroof, electrically adjustable 12-way front seats with pneumatic massage function and a 425 watt sound system from Harman Kardon. A specially developed 19-inch premium sports tyre is also available for particularly sporty drivers. Volkswagen offers the new generation of “Connected Travel Assist” as an option. Within its system limits, the system assists with lateral and longitudinal guidance. It can also detect red traffic lights and brake the ID. Polo GTI to a standstill.
