The Volkswagen Bora is launched in July 1998. What you don't see at first glance is that it is based on the VW Golf IV. In terms of design, the saloon, which is available exclusively as a four-door model, clearly sets itself apart from its hatchback sibling.
It stands out with its striking, compact design and beefy rear end. The front has a unique look, and the flowing roofline transitions harmoniously into the boot. The body is 23 centimetres longer than the Golf IV. This extra length is used exclusively for the boot, which can hold 455 litres of luggage.
The engine range at the start of production of the model, which is mainly built in Mexico, includes: 1.6 8V (74 kW/101 PS), 2.0 8V (85 kW/115 PS), 2.3 VR5 (110 kW/150 PS), 1.9 TDI (66 kW/90 PS), and 1.9 TDI (81 kW/110 PS). At the end of 1998, the 20V with 92 kW/125 PS is added, but only in combination with four-wheel drive (4MOTION).
The standard equipment is of very high quality. The Bora has a fully galvanised body and is available in three trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline.
The VW Bora also has several special models over its lifetime: Edition, Pacific, Sport Edition, and Special offer customers additional incentives to buy.
