The traditional factory premises of Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH is located in the Fledder district of the city in Lower Saxony. In addition to vehicle production, the 430,000 square meters site is also used for technical development and the metal group. Therefore the entire automotive value chain is covered here. In addition, the site also houses an automobile collection.
Since 05/2020, Jörn Hasenfuß has been responsible for Technology as Spokesman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH. Klaus Fröhling has been responsible for Human Resources & Organization since 01/2021, and Dinah J. Kamiske for Finance & IT since 09/2020.
Around 970 employees produce vehicles and body scopes for Volkswagen, Skoda, Porsche and Bentley brands. This requires a high degree of flexibility from the Volkswagen Osnabrück multi-brand site. This location excels in particular in the production of small-series. The vertical range of manufacture in vehicle construction includes body shop, paint shop and assembly.
At the end of 2018, the small series MOIA was built for the ridesharing service in the city of Hamburg. Since the beginning of 2020, the brand’s only open-top vehicle has been produced at the Osnabrück site: the T-Roc Cabriolet. Since then, there have already been several special editions as well as a product upgrade in 2021. The completion of the Arteon Shooting Brake was taken over from Emden and contributes to the capacity utilization of the site by finalizing the bodyshell in Osnabrück.
The variety of brands is also reflected in the technical development. In recent years, projects have been developed here for Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen brands as well as for the ridesharing provider MOIA. Around 500 highly qualified employees have the expertise to create vehicles from the initial concept to simulation and complete vehicle validation to series production. The specialization lies in the design of convertibles, body developments as well as small and small-series products with the highest technical standards for the Volkswagen Group.
With the pressing plant, the production of pressing tools and plant construction, the Metal Group is the link between technical development and vehicle construction. Tools, production systems and pressed parts are manufactured here for the Osnabrück site as well as for plants of other Group brands. The approximately 340 employees focus on pressing tools and systems for the production of front and tailgates.
The integration of environmental protection into all corporate and decision-making processes is a core element of the strategic decisions of Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH. The production processes of the site are continuously optimized in order to produce as environmentally friendly as possible and thus conserve natural resources. The focus is particularly on reducing energy consumption and thus reducing CO2 emissions at the site. An optimization of water use, such as the reduction of the need for drinking water for technical purposes, is also strived for. Another key element is the reduction of production-specific waste.
A real treasure chest is the automobile collection of Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH: It contains more than 100 models and can be used through visitor tours – the Visitor Walk. The legendary Karmann Ghia, the Beetle Convertible, the Scirocco or the Corrado are milestones in the automotive history from Volkswagen. Also models of other brands that are not part of the Volkswagen Group, can be found here. The individual exhibits will be presented by Volkswagen Classic at various classic car rallies and press presentations.
