Volkswagen has decades of experience in vehicle production: last year alone, over 6 million top-quality vehicles left the brand’s assembly lines all over the world. Going forward we will also be harnessing this know-how to help electric cars make the breakthrough.
The European competence center for e-mobility is currently taking shape at the Zwickau site. The factory is to be run exclusively as an e-mobility plant and will commence production of the first I.D. models at the end of 2019. EVs from other Group brands will also be built there. In parallel, further EV sites are being set up in China and North America. By 2023, Group brands will have started production of 27 vehicles based on the MEB.
