After graduating in 2001, Jens Katemann completed a journalism traineeship at the Georg von Holtzbrinck School of the Handelsblatt Publishing Group from 2001 to 2003. Afterwards, the trained business journalists worked for Motor Presse Stuttgart where he held a series of leadership positions – first as head of department at auto motor und sport, then editor-in-chief of AUTOStraßenverkehr, and ultimately as editor-in-chief of auto motor und sport and overall director of all automotive titles at Motor Presse.
In 2017, Jens Katemann joined the Volkswagen Group. From April 2017 to June 2022, he was responsible for global communications at Škoda Auto. Since July 1, 2022, he has headed communications for the Volkswagen brand and Brand Group Core, which includes Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Seat/Cupra, Škoda, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
