Motor Vierzylinder-Boxer luftgekuehltHubraum 1493 ccm Leistung 33 kW 45 PS bei 3800 UminHoechstgeschwindigkeit 125 kmh 1961 erweiterte die Volkswagenwerk AG ihr PKW- Programm durch den Typ 31 VW 1500 Stufenheck Eine Mittelklasse-Limousine die bis Juni 1973 in Produktion blieb und sich ueber zweieinhalb Millionen Mal verkaufte Paralell hierzu stellte man auf der IAA in Frankfurt am Main 1961 das viersitzige Cabriolet auf gleicher technischer Basis vor 16 Fahrzeuge hatte Karmann vorwiegend in Handarbeit gefertigt Es kam nicht zur Serienproduktion weil die notwendigen Versteifungsmanahmen den Preis des 1500 Cabriolets in unvertretbare Hoehen gebracht haetten Heute existieren nur noch zwei dieser Fahrzeuge eines in der Sammlung von Karmann und das gezeigte im AutoMuseum Volkswagen
