When it’s about cars, 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it is clear that the most popular brand in East and West is Volkswagen. From a few thousand vehicles in the eastern German federal states in 1989, the Group’s brand portfolio grew to several million by 2019 – while on January 1, 2019, there were just 36,259 units of the former best-seller prior to 1989, the Trabant, left on the road.
