Plant
The facilities of Volkswagen Navarra, S.A. in Pamplona, Spain, have an area of some 1,630,000 square meters, of which 360,193 square meters are built-up.
Production
The Volkswagen Polo,the Volkswagen T-Cross and the Volkswagen Taigo are manufactured at Pamplona. 221.112 vehicles were produced at the plant in 2021: 70.899 Polo, 141.379 T-Cross and 8.844 Taigo.
Management
Since September 2021, Markus Haupt has been President of Volkswagen Navarra and Plant Manager of the Pamplona factory.
He started in the Volkswagen Group in 2001 in the SEAT test facility in Martorell and since then he has held several positions and areas of responsibility in different brands and locations of the Volkswagen Group.
Most recently, and before moving to Pamplona, Haupt was in charge of production planning of the Volkswagen Group.
Environment
With its "Think Blue. Factory." initiative, the Volkswagen brand has set itself clear targets for the environmentally sustainable positioning of all its plants. By 2025, there is to be a 45 percent reduction in the following five key figures with reference to 2010: energy and water consumption, waste volume, CO2 emissions and solvent emissions. In 2018, Volkswagen Navarra already reached 25% of this figure.
Polo Park
The Polo Park, inaugurated in 1999 by the Spanish King and Queen, occupies an area of 20,230 square meters. The park, which is on the grounds of the Volkswagen plant, is afoundation of Volkswagen Navarra, S.A.Here, schoolchildren in particular learn the theory and practice of road safety. The objective is to heighten awareness of care and consideration in road traffic. By the end of December 2019, the Polo Park had already been visited by more than 1695,000 schoolchildren.
History
Volkswagen Navarra, S.A. was founded in 1965 under the name of “AUTHI“ - Automóviles de Turismo Hispano Ingleses. The first vehicle to be produced in 1966 was a green Morris 1100. Nine years later, the plant was acquired by SEAT. The first car produced after the takeover in 1976 was a white SEAT 124. In 1982 SEAT and Volkswagen concluded a cooperation agreement, after which the second-generation Polo went into production at Pamplona in 1984. 1993 the plant becomes independent and is given the name “Fabrica Navarra de Automoviles S.A.“. In 1994 the new Volkswagen subsidiary was renamed “Volkswagen Navarra, S.A.“ Since the start of production in 1984, Volkswagen Navarra has produced more than 9.000.000 Volkswagen.
In July 2016, the plant was visited by King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
2018 was a demanding year for the plant, dominated by the start of production of the T-Cross, which made its world debut in Amsterdam on September 25, 2018.
2019 was historical for the Volkswagen Navarra because it was the first time producing 2 models in the same Production lines.
The Start of Production of the new Polo was on June 24, 2021, and on September 27, the all new Volkswagen Taigo in exclusivity for the European market.
Thus, for the first time in its history, the Navarra factory is producing three models simultaneously on the same production lines.
On November 4, Christian Vollmer, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand for Production and Logistics and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen Navarra, and Markus Haupt, President of Volkswagen Navarra, accepted the Automotive Lean Award 2021 as the best factory in Europe in the automotive industry in the category OEM.
