The car as a delivery location
A push notification on your smartphone alerts you to the fact that your eagerly awaited parcel is sitting in the spacious luggage compartment of your VW Passat. As already agreed, the delivery agent has one-off access to the luggage compartment thanks to the Volkswagen We Deliver app. This means you can save yourself a trip to the parcel service branch to pick up your delivery or return the package. Car parks, such as the one at Hamburg Airport or in city centres and commuter stations, can be used much more effectively with cars that can park themselves.
If drivers don’t need the space to get in and out of their vehicles, cars can be parked much closer together. The amount of space between other vehicles or parking bay limits can also be reduced at the front and the back of the vehicle. This is made possible by the vehicle’s accurate sensors.
Even today, it is clear that technology can gauge and make use of parking spaces with greater precision than humans. Park Assist, currently available for many Volkswagen brand and Group models, frequently steers the vehicle into spaces that drivers would consider to be too tight on the left (or right).
