Subject to the Supervisory Board’s decision on Friday, the plan calls for producing electric vehicles at the Emden site in the future. The goal is to transform Emden into the second German site at which Volkswagen builds electric vehicles only – following Zwickau. At the Hanover site, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is also supposed to be systematically aligned with the mobility of the future: In addition to the continued production of vehicles with conventional powertrains, the production of the models for the electrically powered ID. Buzz family is scheduled to commence starting in 2022.
“Volkswagen is implementing its electric offensive consistently. We are orienting the company towards clean mobility. This way, we are also ensuring sustainable prospects for the future of the two plants”, said CEO Herbert Diess.

If the Supervisory Board approves the plans this Friday, Emden and Hanover will be transformed into production sites for electric vehicles. In doing so, Volkswagen implements its electric strategy consistently.
