Powerful exterior and interior design, sophisticated technologies and outstanding all-round properties. In the Volkswagen SUV family, the Tiguan with its superior driving characteristics and advanced assistance and comfort systems is a flexible, practical and high-quality all-rounder for everyone. With the production of the five millionth vehicle in January 2019, the compact SUV has now celebrated a historic anniversary.
Already five million Tiguan!
The Tiguan celebrates a historical production anniversary. In just eleven years, five million vehicles of the compact SUV series rolled off the assembly line. Almost 800,000 units were sold in 2018.
2007: Market launch
After its market launch in 2007, the first Tiguan already developed into a worldwide bestseller. Already in the first full year of production in 2008, more than 120,000 copies came off the production line. After that, it was a steep climb - by 2015, more than 500,000 Tiguan had already been sold worldwide. Take Germany, for example: There, the Tiguan has been the best-selling model in its class for years.
The new generation made its debut in 2016 and shortly thereafter broke through the barrier of four million Tiguan models built. The current model is based on the Modular Transverse Construction Kit (MQB). With the MQB, all features have improved: an armada of assistance systems optimizes comfort and safety; the design shows even more charisma; at the same time, the space available has increased.
Tiguan Allspace was launched in 2017
With the Allspace, which is 22 centimetres longer, a more spacious variant was launched. The model not only offers an optional row of seats, increasing overall capacity to seven people. With a maximum boot volume of up to 1,920 litres (rear seat down) and a rear seat that can be shifted by 18 centimetres, the Allspace is one of the space giants of the Volkswagen SUV family. In its class it ranks between the normal Tiguan and the larger Touareg.
As a more off-road version, Volkswagen offers the Tiguan OFFROAD, an all-rounder for off-road use:
The Tiguan, on the other hand, turns sporty and exclusive with the optional R-Line "Black Style" design package:
