Women-only team thrills fans
From the three drivers Carrie Schreiner, Ronja Assmann and Jasmin Preisig, to the team boss and mechanics – the Girls Only crew of WS Racing is a team staffed exclusively by women. Their vehicle of choice was a Golf GTI TCR with race number 89. The 20 women experienced a roller-coaster of emotions on the Green Hell, but showed exceptional commitment. Even a 14-hour pit stop failed to deter Girls Only and they managed to get their Golf across the finish line in the Motodrom section in one piece.
Flashback – 23 hours earlier, it seemed that the curse of the Green Hell had struck again. At some point during the first four laps, a stray bolt penetrated the radiator and ultimately caused terminal engine damage. The Swiss driver Jasmine Preisig steered the GTI back to the pits, where the mechanics faced a mammoth task. After more than an hour their worst fears were realised – the engine had to be replaced. The Girls returned to the track in the early hours of the morning. The length of the enforced break prevented them from scoring any points, but they still achieved their main aim of crossing the finish line – in the face of adversity.
