The Volkswagen plant at Osnabrück, which has a long tradition, is located in the immediate vicinity of the central station of the city in Lower Saxony and covers an area of 426,000 square meters. Apart from a vehicle assembly unit, the facility includes a technical development unit and a metal group. The plant therefore covers the entire automotive value stream. The facility also features offices and an automobile collection.
The multi-brand Osnabrück plant has performedpainting and assembly work on the first-generation Volkswagen Tiguan since April 2016. In addition, part of the painting work required for the ŠKODA Fabia is carried out at the plant. These models indicate the variety of models and brands covered by the plant. The manufacturing facilities include the body shop, paint shop and assembly unit. From the assembly line, the finished products are transferred directly to the delivery unit and then delivered by truck and rail.
Ulrich Riestenpatt gt. Richter has been Managing Director, Technical and Speaker of the Management Board of Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH since October 2016. Since the beginning of the year, Burkhard Ulrich has been the Management Board member responsible for human resources and organization. Heinz Debelts has been responsible for finance and IT since March 2016.
The automobile value stream at the plant begins with technical development. The technical development unit at the Osnabrück plant has the skills required for developing vehicles from the initial concept through to series production. The unit specializes in open vehicles (convertibles and roadsters), body development and small to very small series of highly demanding products for all brands of the Volkswagen Group.
The metal group includes the press shop, toolmaking and equipment production, and provides the interface between development and production. The unit produces tools, production equipment and pressed parts not only for the Osnabrück plant but also for plants of other Volkswagen Group brands
With two production lines, the vehicle assembly facility of Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH produced more than 76,000 units in 2017. Currently, the vehicle assembled at the plant is the Volkswagen Tiguan (first-generation). In addition, Volkswagen Osnabrück carries out part of the painting work required for the ŠKODA Fabia.
Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH offers young people a variety of career entry opportunities. At the plant's own Training Center, young people are trained in seven different vocations. Two dual courses of studies providing qualifications for skilled workers and engineers are also offered.
The integration of environmental protection in all business and decision-making processes is a key element of strategic decisions at Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH. Production processes at the plants are continually optimized to ensure that production is as environmentally compatible as possible and to conserve natural resources. Efforts focus on the reduction of energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions at the plants. Other key elements are the reduction of production waste and industrial drinking water consumption..
The car collection of Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH is a real treasure-chest. The legendary Karmann Ghia, the Beetle Cabrio, the Scirocco and the Corrado are landmarks in the history of Volkswagen vehicles. Classic cars such as the Porsche 356 B Hardtop Coupé, the Volkswagen-Porsche and the Volkswagen SP-2 are also preserved at Osnabrück. The collection includes unique specimens designed by the legendary Italian designer Giorgio Giugiaro and considered to be the forerunners of the Scirocco and the first Golf. The vehicles are used by Volkswagen Classic for participation in various classic car rallies and press presentations.

Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH was registered in December 2009 and is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG. Preparations for the production of the Golf Cabriolet started in January 2010.
Since the integration of technical development in December 2010 and the metal group in March 2011, Osnabrück has covered the full range of competence required in the automotive process chain. The Golf 6 Cabrio, which first rolled off the production line on March 17, 2011, was the first vehicle produced by Volkswagen Osnabrück GmbH. This continued the success story of the predecessor models built between 1978 and 2001. Since the fall of 2012, the plant has also assembled products of other Group brands such as the Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayman and the Porsche Cayenne. Certain components of the ŠKODA Fabia are painted in Osnabrück. The painting and assembly of the Volkswagen Tiguan (first-generation) started in April 2016. A special highlight in the history of the plant was the exclusive production of Volkswagen's one-liter car, the XL1, which started in the spring of 2014.
