The Passat GTE has a plug-in hybrid drive. With a system output of 160 kW / 218 PS, an NEDC fuel consumption of 1.5 l/ 100 km and 14.1 – 15.7 kWh / 100 km and an electrical range of up to 56 km (WLTP), the Passat GTE defines an innovative status quo in its class when it comes to efficiency. The combination of battery, DSG, electric motor and turbo petrol engine (TSI) already complies with the limits of the Euro 6d emission standard, which will not apply to new cars until 2021. Under normal operating conditions, the Passat GTE always relies on the electric drive to start the journey – making this stretch free of emissions. The battery's energy content (13.0 kW) – now up by 31 per cent – means than many day-to-day trips can be undertaken on a zero emissions basis. E-mode can also be activated at the touch of a button – for example at the end of a journey when driving into a city. Thanks to a modified hybrid mode, it is now even easier to store electrical energy on a lengthy journey so as to retain the capacity for environment-friendly emissions-free travel in the city Incidentally, the Passat GTE is the only plug-in hybrid that can be ordered ex works with a towing bracket.
