In conceptual terms, the 135 kW / 184 PS GTD is a Golf GTI with a diesel engine. However, the features which are highlighted in red on the GTI show up in chrome and subdued grey on the GTD. These include the chrome crossbar on the radiator grille or the grey decorative stitching on the steering wheel and the top-class sports seats in their legendary GTI/GTD “Clark” design. The sports chassis and the high-torque turbocharged diesel form a dynamic alliance. At 1,750 rpm, the TDI power plant already heaves 380 Nm of torque onto the front axle. Despite a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds, the model reaches a combined consumption of only 4.4 l/100 km (with manual gearbox). A 7-speed DSG gearbox is available as an option.
