At the beginning of 1970s, Giorgio Giugiaro delighted the world with his boxy vehicles bursting with character. The Scirocco, a striking front-wheel drive model introduced in 1974, was his masterpiece, and is still a much-sought-after classic today. That would suggest that Mr Giugiaro developed further models for Volkswagen, too, right?
A. Of course! The 1970s were dominated by the Golf and Passat, which were produced in huge numbers.
B. That was almost the case, but his designs were too lacking in emotion. As such, only three prototypes were made, which couldn’t even be driven.
C. No. After designing the Scirocco, Mr Giugiaro dedicated himself to his hobby – breeding gerbils.
